Fidelio Notte Chest of Drawers by Poltrona Frau
A deliberately lean design with precious materials. Functional details become highly characteristic aesthetic elements, such as the recessed handles that provide interesting graphics on the surfaces. Intense contrast also between the dark, warm hues of cuoio saddle extra leather and the wood covering the outside and the bright explosion of the very pale natural maple used inside the compartments and drawers.
The Fidelio bedroom units are compact, to provide all the storage space needed in this room. The supporting frame is in solid Canaletto walnut and birch plywood with Canaletto walnut veneer. All the pieces in the collection have the outside of the drawers and side panels covered in Cuoio Saddle Extra leather. The back panel can also be covered in leather, otherwise it comes in Canaletto walnut veneer. An even richer impression of solidity is given by the versions with semi-polished Calacatta gold marble top. Alternatively, top in Canaletto walnut.

Saddle Leather: Pelle Frau® Saddle Extra leather is 4mm thick. Because of its specific qualities, the leather must not be exposed to direct sunlight or heat sources. Pelle Frau® Saddle leather is the perfect blend of elasticity, touch, thickness and rigidity. It is the product of specific research into the material and the tanning process, aimed at producing a hide with these specific qualities. Resistance to light and stains, dimensional stability and good gluing capacity are the results. The key ingredient is European cow hide, processed using natural techniques and dyed with aniline to limit any damage caused by accidental scratches. The coat is 1.2-1.5 millimetres thick. Imperfections such as scars or wrinkles emphasise the authenticity of the material and its natural origins.

About The Designer – Roberto Lazzeroni
Roberto Lazzeroni, born in Pisa, began his professional life with the study of art and architecture in Florence and the interests he developed during his training, in particular in the conceptual art and radical design movements. In the early 1980s, Lazzeroni made his professional debut with a series of important works in the field of “interior architecture” that immediately attracted attention and were published in Italian and foreign periodicals. Lazzeroni considers “interior architecture” to be a necessary discipline, a sort of “training field” in which to glean varied experience in materials, techniques, and problems inherent to design in the home. A fundamental step for anyone approaching the world of product design. Receptive to the history of design and its “signs,” with a personal stylistic flair that Lazzeroni spontaneously defines as “sentimental design.” It is in fact easy even for the non-expert eye to sense the link between past and future in Roberto Lazzeroni’s projects: his is design that does not parade industrial geometries, but neither does it embody frivolous affectations of aestheticism; it gives objects their correct places in history, in tradition, in an individual and collective autobiography. Lazzeroni’s peculiar understanding of design led him to specialize in concept development: the ideas underlying the creation of new trademarks.
