Flexform Designer Sofas: Architectural Forms for the Modern Luxury Interior

In the most considered interiors, a sofa defines atmosphere, introduces rhythm, and reflects the philosophy of the home. Flexform sofas embody this thinking. Sculptural, modular, and meticulously proportioned, they bring architectural clarity to contemporary living while offering an enveloping sense of ease.

At Everything But Ordinary, curation means championing pieces that offer both emotional resonance and structural discipline. These designs do just that—merging Italian craftsmanship with spatial coherence and enduring materiality.

Where Structure Meets Softness

Rooted in architectural thinking, each sofa made by Flexform is designed to integrate seamlessly into its surroundings—enhancing spatial flow, expressing proportion through clean geometry, and offering comfort without visual noise.

Within the Flexform sofas collection, pieces such as Groundpiece, Camelot, Asolo, and Adda embody this philosophy. Generous in scale yet visually restrained, they introduce sculptural form and lived-in softness to refined interiors.

Unveiled at Milan Design Week 2025, the Loungescape system continues Flexform’s lineage of low-profile, architectural seating—elevating modular rhythm into sculptural clarity. With its low-slung profile, enveloping structure, and spatial rhythm, Loungescape becomes the architectural anchor of a room—shaping space as naturally as the contours of land define a landscape.

Flexform sofas remain architectural anchors of contemporary interiors—pieces that shape space as much as they furnish it.

The Groundpiece Revolution

First introduced in 2001, Groundpiece redefined the modern sofa. Designed by Antonio Citterio—who has collaborated with Flexform since the 1970s—it marked a decisive shift: transforming the sofa from formal seating into lived-in architecture. Deep, modular, and versatile, it introduced a new paradigm, with its now-iconic integrated leather bookcase armrest.

Its influence lies in how it serves the rhythms of real life—hosting, reclining, reading, pausing—while remaining architecturally restrained. Groundpiece endures as a benchmark of contemporary design, its authenticity rooted in proportion, versatility, and enduring comfort.

Craftsmanship as Philosophy

Every sofa made by Flexform is handcrafted in Meda, within Italy’s Brianza region—an area renowned for cabinetmaking and design-led upholstery. Founded in 1959, the atelier continues to draw from this heritage, balancing tradition and modern precision to create pieces that endure.

At the structural core, solid wood and precision-engineered metal frames preserve proportion and integrity for decades of daily life. This foundation is then layered with textiles, high-grade suedes, and full-grain leathers selected for their longevity and tactile richness. Grosgrain piping, whether tone-on-tone or in subtle contrast, introduces gentle definition, while metal finishes in satin, black chrome, or burnished brass are chosen for their ability to develop character over time.

Together, these elements articulate Flexform’s philosophy: construction as permanence, materials as narrative, and craftsmanship as the quiet architecture of comfort.

Tailored Comfort, Personalised Form

Flexform sofas are conceived to balance aesthetic clarity with ergonomic nuance, offering tailored compositions that reflect individual preference. Goose down with polyurethane inserts creates a soft, enveloping comfort—relaxed and inviting, with hidden structure beneath the surface. For those who favour a more defined silhouette, a polyurethane and Dacron-fibre blend provides supportive firmness, engineered to retain shape while remaining tactile.

Sustainability Through Longevity

Endurance is the truest form of sustainability. By designing for permanence—through construction and style—Flexform reduces waste and prolongs relevance. Every component is made to last and, where needed, to be maintained or reupholstered with ease.

This ethos mirrors the curatorial philosophy of Everything But Ordinary: we select pieces defined by longevity—chosen for their ability to evolve, endure, and remain integral to the life of a home. In this philosophy, sustainability is not trend but permanence—furniture conceived to settle into homes as part of their living architecture.
