Poltrona Frau is distinguished by its long-standing expertise in leather and upholstered seating. Founded in 1912, the brand has spent more than a century refining its approach to leather — most notably through Pelle Frau®, its proprietary full-grain hide developed with immersion dyeing and finishing processes that give it a characteristic softness and durability over time. The result is luxury Italian furniture that is as much about material knowledge as it is about form.
Poltrona Frau was founded in Turin in 1912 and has been based in Tolentino, in the Marche region, since 1963. Production remains rooted there, underpinned by specialist leatherworking and handcraft traditions that have been developed over more than a century. For the customer, that continuity supports the consistency of finish, upholstery and material handling for which Poltrona Frau is known.
Yes. Poltrona Frau furniture is designed with a level of leather quality and upholstery craft that is best understood in person. Poltrona Frau has a long history of working with some of the most significant architects and designers of each era — from Gio Ponti and the Vignellis through to Norman Foster, Zaha Hadid and Jean Nouvel. The current collection reflects that same breadth, with contributions from Roberto Lazzeroni, GamFratesi, Sebastian Herkner, Tristan Auer and others. Across all of it, the constant is Pelle Frau® leather and the companies commitment to handcraft.
