Founded in 1968 by Luigi Allievi — with roots in chair making dating back to 1948 — Porada remains family-led and produces its collection entirely in Cabiate, near Como. That continuity of place and ownership is part of what gives Porada furniture its character: a deep familiarity with solid wood, refined proportion and the kind of joinery detail that comes from decades of working closely with a single material.

Canaletto walnut holds a particularly important place across the collection — its grain, warmth and workability running through many of Porada’s best-known pieces, from dining tables and sideboards to beds and occasional chairs. Across every category, the approach is consistent: soft curves, controlled detailing and forms that feel sculptural without sacrificing the warmth that makes luxury modern Italian furniture worth living with over time.

Porada’s distinctiveness comes from its relationship with solid wood — particularly Canaletto walnut, which runs through the collection as both a material and a design language. Rooted in a cabinetmaking tradition stretching back to 1948, the collection expresses that expertise through contemporary forms defined by careful proportion, refined joinery and a warmth that feels considered rather than decorative. It is among the most consistent bodies of work in modern Italian furniture making.

Porada furniture is made entirely in Italy, at the company’s base in Cabiate in the Como area — a region with a long history of fine furniture production. Working from the same location since its founding keeps Porada’s craft close to its source, and is a significant part of why the finish, timber handling and construction quality remain so consistent across the collection.

Porada works with a broad group of designers including Emmanuel Gallina, David Dolcini, Carlo Ballabio, Patrick Jouin, Gabriele & Oscar Buratti, Stefano Bigi and Umberto Asnago. That range gives the collection considerable breadth, while Porada’s material language — solid wood, balanced proportion, soft curves resolved with precision — keeps every piece coherent within the wider body of work.

Yes. We welcome visits to experience selected Porada pieces at our design gallery. Timber furniture of this quality is particularly worth seeing in person — grain, tone, finish and the true weight of a solid wood piece are qualities that photographs rarely capture fully. If there is a particular design you would like to see, please contact us before visiting so we can confirm what is currently on display.
