The Albero Bookcase by Poltrona Frau, designed by Gianfranco Frattini in the late 1950s, is an exquisite blend of history and craftsmanship. Inspired by the Neoliberty period, this floor-to-ceiling bookcase stands out with its solid Canaletto walnut veneer frame, transforming from a mere storage solution into a sculptural art piece that enhances any room’s aesthetic.

Detailing like a unique rack and pinion joint, MDF shelves finished in Canaletto veneer, and a sturdy ceiling anchoring system with anti-slip rubber feet for floor stability, add to its allure. MATERIALS & DETAILS

This bookcase is a statement in craftsmanship, featuring a solid Canaletto walnut structure that includes two toothed supports with a special rack joint and four vertical pillars. These pillars are precisely drilled to accommodate 12 MDF shelves, also veneered in Canaletto walnut. The brass screws and antiqued burnished steel ferrules ensure stability, anchoring the upper structure to the ceiling and the lower to the floor via slip-resistant rubber. With the added feature of 360-degree rotation, the bookcase is secured in place by four adjustable metal locknuts. As a finishing touch, both the designer’s signature and the Poltrona Frau logo are laser-engraved on the lower toothed support.

Standard Delivery (courier)

Standard Delivery is a courier delivery service suitable for smaller furniture items, and most lighting & accessory items. Once the items you've ordered are ready for dispatch from our warehouse, your order will be dispatched on a next day service.

This service does not include delivery into the property, assembly or unpacking. For larger items the driver may require assistance when unloading.

Platinum Delivery (white glove)

The delivery team will deliver your items to your room of choice and remove all the packaging for you. If required, all items will be assembled by the delivery team. Once the items have been received into our warehouse and are ready for delivery, our delivery team will be in touch to arrange delivery with you.

On-site installation is regrettably not available for lighting products or wall mounted goods such as, but not limited to shelving, mirrors, and pictures.

About Gianfranco Frattini

Gianfranco Frattini was born in Padua on 15 May 1926. He graduated from Milan Polytechnic with a degree in Architecture in 1953 and joined Gio Ponti’s studio. As early as 1954, thanks to Ponti, he began working with Cesare Cassina, who would always remain an important figurehead for him. He was one of the founders of ADI and was involved in the management of the Triennale di Milano on several occasions. He opened his own design studio, initially with Franco Bettonica, in Via Lanzone, Milan.
