Defined by its compact proportions and architectural layering, the Iren desk by Poltrona Frau introduces sculptural order to bedroom workspaces, reading nooks, or transitional living areas. Designed by Kensaku Oshiro, its dual-surface structure creates a stepped, floating profile that anchors small interiors with visual clarity.

Crafted in Italy from beech plywood with solid ash edging, the L-shaped lower surface includes a carved recess for essentials. The upper panel glides horizontally on concealed metal runners, supported by a matt black lacquered metal box that can integrate an optional USB port. Iren balances precision joinery with intelligent, space-conscious design.

MATERIALS & DETAILS

Top composed of two overlapping beech plywood surfaces with ash edging. The fixed lower top is L-shaped and includes a recessed section ideal for holding small items. The upper top is slidable, resting on a matt black lacquered metal box that conceals the sliding mechanism and discreetly houses two integrated USB sockets.

Base features a sawhorse design in solid ash, anchored with a matt black lacquered steel plate for stability. Both the base and edging are available in ash with a wenge stain or moka stain finish.

Upholstery available in Pelle Frau® ColorSphere® or Saddle Extra leather, with the option of tone-on-tone or contrasting edge stitching. Upholstery is fixed and not removable.

Aesthetic details include the Poltrona Frau logo heat-embossed into the lower corner of the sliding top—a subtle mark of craftsmanship and authenticity.

Kensaku Oshiro

Kensaku Oshiro was born in Okinawa, Japan, in 1977. Since 1999, after receiving a Master degree in Industrial Design at “Scuola Politecnica di Design” in Milan, he began working with several practices until 2004. He suddenly joined the design team of Lissoni Associati studio, with whom he worked until mid-2012. In the second half of 2012 he moved to London to work with BarberOsgerby.
