With its tiered symmetry and slender verticals, the Ren bookcase by Poltrona Frau—designed by Neri & Hu—brings architectural rhythm to executive offices, private libraries, and gallery-style interiors. Birch plywood uprights, wrapped in Saddle Extra leather and edged with Canaletto walnut, reference the Chinese ideogram “ren,” a symbol of human connection.

Horizontal surfaces are inset and supported by concealed joinery, with optional brushed steel bookends in a natural brass finish enhancing structure and contrast. A study in spatial openness and cultural layering, Ren reinterprets the bookcase as both sculptural installation and functional anchor—balancing Eastern influence with Italian material precision.

Upholstery offered in Saddle Extra leather with delicate handmade markings, or Pelle Frau® ColorSphere® leather with visible stitching in tone-on-tone or contrasting thread.

Structure composed of shaped sides and crosspieces in solid Canaletto walnut, balancing refined craftsmanship with architectural strength.

Shelves made from birch plywood veneered in Canaletto walnut, stabilised by a concealed steel counterweight positioned within the bottom shelf. Adjustable black plastic feet ensure level positioning.

Details include brass-finished metal elements treated with a transparent matt coating, adding subtle lustre to the bookcase’s elegant profile.
