Reinterpreting a Poltrona Frau icon through surrealist lens, the 1919 Ultime Notizie armchair transforms the original bergère into a sculptural collector’s piece. Its deep seat, curved armrests, and hand-shaped capitonné backrest retain the generous proportions and poise of the 1919 archetype, now heightened by artistic tension and visual intrigue.

Created in collaboration with Fornasetti, the Pelle Frau® leather upholstery becomes a canvas for the Ultime Notizie print—a layered trompe-l’œil of butterflies and archival clippings. Crafted in Italy and individually numbered, this limited-edition armchair unites traditional upholstery with cultural provocation and rarefied Italian craft.

MATERIALS & DETAILS

The upholstery is in Pelle Frau® leather. The white Pelle Frau® ColorSphere® Impact Less is decorated using a sophisticated digital printing method that highlights intricate hand-drawn motifs by Fornasetti, creating a slight, pleasant relief to the touch. Removability is not available, ensuring a seamless and durable finish.

Aesthetic details include a handmade capitonné design on the backrest, with the external back of the chair finished with a row of leather-covered tacks for an elegant touch.

The padding includes a rubberised horsehair-padded seat, with the backrest and armrests padded with hand-shaped vegetable horsehair for added luxury. The seat cushion is filled with goose down for ultimate comfort.

The optional glass holder is attached to the armrest. The plate arm is fixed and made from bronze, in a gold finish. The plate is crafted from wax-treated natural oak (26) and is enriched with a small brass ashtray, engraved with the Poltrona Frau logo.

The feet are made from dark walnut-stained beech wood (05). The front feet feature brass wheels with a golden finish for a touch of sophistication.
