It is a ‘rectangular cube’ with rounded edges and a solid wood and metal structure, padded with polyurethane and Dacron and covered in a laminated fabric. Flexform upholstery uses only the highest-quality real, full-grain leather that offers outstanding softness, natural pliability and plumpness. Strictly tanned in Italy, using precise, time-tested methods, the leather is first buffed (almost like sanding, to smooth the surface and prepare it for dyeing. Then the leather is aniline-dyed, using a “through-dyeing” process that allows the color to be thoroughly absorbed by the leather, even into its deepest layers. This is definitely not a surface dye that reveals the underlying color of the natural leather at the slightest scratch. Any lack of uniformity in the surface color is characteristic of natural leather and therefore should be considered one of its virtues, underscoring its natural origin and value.
Many Flexform products have metal structures with a painted finish: epoxy powder-coat or liquid. Powder-coating creates a layer of polymers that anchor very securely to the surface being treated. This type of coating is generally resistant to scrapes and bumps. The chromed finish is, instead, achieved through galvanization with chrome that leaves the surface polished with a mirror effect. Among the available Flexform finishes are: satin-finish, chromed, burnished, black chrome and champagne.
